We’ve been followers of German designer Katrin Arens, an Italy-based grasp of old-as-new, for some time now. Arens, who’s each a furnishings and inside designer by commerce, has been giving new life to castoff supplies for greater than 20 years by her furnishings, kitchen, and object designs—lengthy earlier than the reclaimed wooden development happened.
At present we highlight a kitchen that Arens designed for her favourite shopper: a Florentine household, makers of wine and olive oil in Tuscany, with whom Arens has collaborated for nearly 15 years. (“They need particular person options they usually belief in my designs utterly—so they’re the right shopper,” she says.) For the household’s vacation house on Sardinia, which has a panoramic view of the Porto Cervo harbor, Arens used unique wooden discarded from a rework of the 1768 Angelo Mai Library in Bergamo, close to Milan. After minimal remedy, she paired it with stainless-steel and new wooden as wanted for a sensible, hanging design that couldn’t have been achieved some other method.

One other perk to utilizing outdated wooden? Its character. “Even within the new use, you may see the lifetime of the earlier story,” Arens says.
